Approved! A Story About Quaker Meeting for Business is an engaging way to help elementary school age children understand Quaker process. One day, the children of the meeting attend junior meeting for business to discern where to donate money that they had collected from their hot dog sale. The clerk begins the meeting with silence. The children consider several suggestions by listening to God and each other, and they unite on donating to an orphanage in Kenya. The recording clerk prepares a minute and refines it before the children all shout Approved!

The story uses simple, clear language and charming artwork to introduce Quaker process, highlighting:

  • The role of the clerk and recording clerk
  • Reporting to meeting for business
  • Participating in spiritual discernment
  • Identifying the sense of the meeting
  • Writing and approving minutes
  • Working together as a community

The story is delightfully illustrated in full color and is enhanced by the addition of a set of queries about going to meeting for business, a glossary, and a short introduction to the author’s experience with junior meeting for business.
