Pleasant Green Books is excited to announce the publication of two new books about Quakers in North Carolina: in January, 2026

David’s book, Are Love and Unity Preserved Amongst Us: The 18th Century Discipline and Queries of North Carolina Quakers, explores the spiritual roots of North Carolina Yearly Meeting. Growing in relative isolation from the traditional Quaker centers of London and Philadelphia, these early Friends built a discipline founded on lived experience and a commitment to one simple, guiding query: “Are Love and Unity preserved amongst us?”

Nancy’s latest historical work, Forged in the Spirit: Quaker Pioneers on the Eno, is a deeply researched exploration of the Quaker settlers who shaped the early foundations of the Hillsborough region.  While many are familiar with the town’s Revolutionary and Civil War ties, the quiet influence of the early Quaker families often remains in the shadows. Her book brings these pioneers to the forefront, tracing their journey from their arrival even before Hillsborough was established to their lasting impact on the local landscape and culture. This work compiles early written influences, advice from traveling ministers, and the historical records of a community that found its way forward through steadfastness and fortitude.
